Having Tests Before the Procedure
To understand your unique history and any preexisting medical conditions, the doctor doing the test will need a complete medical history (medical record) from your primary care physician.
Ask your doctor’s office to send a copy of your medical record to the office or the facility where the colonoscopy will be performed.
If you haven’t had a physical exam recently, you may need to schedule one.
Most of the time, blood tests, electrocardiograms (ECGs or EKGs), x-rays, or pulmonary function tests are not needed before a colonoscopy. If you have medical conditions that could put you at risk during the colonoscopy, however, your doctor may ask you to have blood or imaging tests for your safety.
